What types of tissue can you identify in this image?

The inside of the esophagus is often subjected to significant mechanical and chemical stress. After all, everything we eat has to pass through this tube on its way to the stomach. Considering that some of us even swallow swords, it’s clear that the inside of the esophagus needs substantial protection.

Which type of epithelium do you think is best suited for this purpose?

Well, what you see here is a prime example of squamous epithelium, well suited for the wear and tear of our human food (and non food) habits, as stated above :-)
