The renal cortex is the outer region of the kidney. In the cortex, you'll be able to spot renal corpuscles, also known as a malpighian corpuscles or renal glomeruli. It is a critical structural component of the nephron, which is the functional unit of the kidney. The renal corpuscle is primarily located in the renal cortex, the outer part of the kidney, and plays a fundamental role in the initial stage of urine formation through a process called glomerular filtration.
