The different cells of the tyhmus (400X)
In the medulla, we find thymocytes (slightly more mature than those in the cortex), macrophages, thymic epithelial cells, and dendritic cells. It is difficult to distinguish between the latter three cell types in the this image. Therefore, these cells have not been labeled in this image.
Hassall's corpuscles are located in the medulla and are a characteristic feature of the thymus. They have no known function and are likely epithelial cells undergoing degeneration.
