Here you see an overview of the anatomy of the thymus at 4X magnification.The speciman is from a child. Note that the organ is dividet into many lobules.

The thymus is a vital organ of the immune system responsible for the maturation of T-cells (thymocytes), which are essential for adaptive immunity. Located behind the sternum, it is divided into two main regions: the cortex, where immature thymocytes proliferate and begin their development, and the medulla, where further maturation and selection occur.
