This is from the posterior part of the trachea. The trachealis muscle seen here is a smooth muscle that connects the ends of the C-shaped cartilage rings in the trachea. Unlike the rigid cartilage in the anterior and lateral portions of the trachea, the trachealis muscle is soft.
