The neural tube is a structure that develops into the brain and spinal cord during embryonic development. It consists of layers of cells, including neural stem cells, developing neurons, and nerve fibers. Disruptions in its development can cause neurological disorders, and folic acid is crucial for preventing neural tube defects.

The process of mitosis can be seen in some of the cells lining the tube.
