The tunica muscularis of the duodenum (100X)
The tunica muscularis is divided in two:
- a longitudinal layer and
- a circular layer
Study how the muscular layer is cut to differentiate the two components (remember this is a longitudinal section of the duodenum). The tunica serosa covers the outermost part of the tunica muscularis. The tunica serosa is made up of single layered squamous epithelium, the mesothelium. It lines the peritonneal cavity.
