Corpus luteum (400X)

In this high-power photomicrograph you can more easily see the cytological differences between the hormone producing cells of the corpus luteum:

  • theca lutein cells (contain a small dark nuclei with a eosinophilic and fairly sparse cytoplasm)
  • granulosa lutein cells (contain large pale nuclei and abundant pale cytoplasm).
