At a higher magnification, the mucosa displays a cross section of numerous intestinal glands. These glands (also called crypts of Lieberkühn) are tubular glands that lie deep between the intestinal tips in the entire intestine where they produce intestinal juice. The epithelium surrounds the lumen. Notice that the elithelium lacks villi, making it a part of the colon histologically.
