Dentine and cells of the pulp (200X)

The pulp (lat: pulpa) is comprised of loose connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves. At this magnification you'll see that the concentration of cells close to the dentine is much higher than in the pulp in general. This "concentration of cells" is divided into three zones:

  • the cell rich zone
  • the cell free zone of Weil
  • the odontoblast layer.

The predentine stains light pink/red while the dentine stains pink/red. Within the predentine you can see globules of mineralizing dentine. Dentinal tubules are seen throughout the dentine as a pattern of thin stripes.
