Semicircular duct of the vestibular system (200X)
This image shows details from one of the semicircular ducts and the crista apullaris responsible for sensing changes in rotation of the head. So when a person turns his or her head, the relative movement of the endolymph within the canal (caused by inertia) results in deflection of the cilia projecting from the sensory cells at the crista. The cells in turn connects with afferent neurons of the vestibulocochlear neve.
